Welcome to MariePalmerArt.com.
I’m Marie Palmer, and embroidery has been part of my life since childhood. My mom and godmother taught me when I was just eight years old—my first project was the hem of a pillowcase decorated with two geese, a bouquet of flowers, and a cornflower blue bow. Not exactly the kind of work that inspires me now, but it was a wonderful beginning.
After a long break, I returned to embroidery and, over the past decade, have developed my own approach to thread painting. Using needle and thread much like others use paint and brush, I create richly textured works that explore themes of motherhood, faith, archetype, and our relationship to the natural world. The slow, intentional rhythm of handwork is central to my practice—it’s both meditative and meaningful, a way of resisting the rush of modern life while honoring the time it takes for stories to unfold.
My work is an intimate exploration of motherhood, faith, archetype, and the natural world. Through embroidery and mixed media, I build visual narratives that reflect the depth of maternal love, the dualities of nurturing and sacrifice, and the ways both faith and nature mirror our inner landscapes.
Each piece is stitched slowly, thread by thread. This deliberate pace is not only practical but deeply intentional: it allows space for reflection, prayer, and an embodied connection to the work itself. The process mirrors the themes I explore—motherhood, growth, transformation, and spiritual grounding—each requiring patience, presence, and time.
The texture of embroidery imbues my pieces with dimension and intimacy. Archetypes and symbols, whether drawn from myth or lived experience, often surface in my work as reminders of the universal longings and truths shared across humanity.
At its heart, my art is both celebration and contemplation: a meditation on the beauty and complexity of motherhood, the mysteries of faith, and the interconnectedness of nature. Through each piece, I invite viewers to pause, reflect, and encounter their own stories and spiritual landscapes within the work.
